We can think of hundreds of reasons to buy this gorgeous Dewees Island Beach Cottage at 122 Lake Timicau, but here are our top 5.
The cottage is in the center of Dewees Island, close to the ocean, but also close to the clubhouse, the pool, and the incredible views of Old House lagoon, right outside. A private barrier island, you’re close to Charleston’s history and restaurants, but a world away.
A short walk or ride on a beautiful trail will bring you to the 3+ miles of pristine beach on the island.
And the marsh is right outside your door!
Imagine the endless parade of wildlife on this marsh:
2. A Sense of History:
The home was designed using age old principles of design, with deep overhangs on the southern side, but open to catch the breezes. With architectural nods to the development of Old Charleston from the islands; the colors, the porch architecture, and the textures all evoke the famous rainbow row.
Reclaimed architecture is used throughout the house: from the floors to the mantel to the doors to the beams, you get a chance to feel like you’re living with the best historical treasures around.
We’ve briefly touched on the views, but you have three levels of porches to see them from. On the bedroom/den floor, a long porch looks out over the maritime forest and marsh.
And just look at the wildlife you can see (in this case, at least 150 birds of 9 different species, including a nesting pair of eagles.)
Otters, alligators, bobcats, and raccoons have also been sighted in this wetland. Check out the views from the TOP deck:
and the rooftop has sweeping panoramas with sunsets.
This video was taken there: you will have a chance to watch the eagles grow and learn to fly:
And where you’ll find the perfect spot for your margarita!
4. The Nearby Beach
Dewees Island boasts a pristine beach, and because our setbacks are further back than most places on the coast, we intend to keep it part of the natural processes of erosion and accretion. Most mornings, yours will be the only footprints there, and there are shells and treasures galore. Dewees has a “three treasures” rule, so even if you’re not the first one on the beach, there should still be shells for the finding. Our healthy dune system provides nesting places for several endangered species of birds as well as loggerhead turtles.
To walk from the house will take about 5 minutes; about the same as finding a parking space and parking on your nearest public beach… of course, you can take the golf cart right there.
5. Attention to Detail.
We’ve talked about the amazing historic details of the house. But how about this incredible bedroom?
Or the perfect office:
with this in-office beverage station right near the kitchen:
A perfect sized porch for a hammock:
Or this interesting way to hide the tv: the painting above the fireplace is on a straight hinge.
This is the television, hidden:
There is incredible attention paid to the lighting, from marine sconces in some bedrooms, and these lovely wall candle lamps:
to the gorgeous pineapple upon entry:
To these pendants in the kitchen:
to these lovely outdoor fixtures:
And how about bathrooms you just want to hang out in?
To rich details in storage hooks:

Or creating an elevated bed and enclosed space under the house for the dog? Every Dewees Island Beach Cottage should have room for the dog…
